Hong Kong Film,, Hollywood and New Global Cinema

Hong Kong Film,, Hollywood and New Global Cinema

$39.95

Hong Kong cinema is especially vibrant at present, and is very interestingly placed, with strong connections both to Hollywood, and to world and Asian regional markets. In addition, with the establishment of the Hong Kong Film Archive scholarly interest in the history and development of Hong Kong cinema has grown considerably in recent years. This book examines a wide range of aspects of Hong Kong cinema, and discusses the role of Hong Kong cinema in changing global film markets. It explores Hong Kong cinema’s inextricable links with Southeast Asia, Korea, Japan, the United States, and the Chinese diaspora. It considers Hong Kong’s connection with Hollywood, which involves ties that bring together art cinema and popular genres as well as film festivals and the media marketplace with popular transnational genres, and demonstrates how Hong Kong film, throughout its history, has challenged, redefined, expanded, and exceeded its borders.

 1.5 generation.

1.5 generation.

$49.99

This thesis examines the term “1.5 generation” Asian Americans and their transformation stages. My thesis work is inspired by my personal experiences as well as the experiences, realizations, and imagination of others. A 1.5 generation Asian American’s awareness of his or her identity differs by the stages (teenage years; university years; professional life) of their transformation. My thesis is the story of my personal journey to acquiring my new identity while simultaneously educating those around me as to who I had now become: a member of the 1.5 generation Asian American community.;My works are influenced by Bill Viola, Namjun Paik, Valerie Soe, and Tony Cokes. The main medium in the series 1.5 is digitized video art published online. This 1.5 generation concept could not be explained in one piece unless I made an entire documentary movie with full narration. The final realization of this concept required my work to be broken down into several constituent subjects. Making a series out of my work helped me to sketch out the concept of who I was and who I had now become. The transformation stages gave me more freedom to express the main theme.;I consider this work a portrait of my journey through cultural exploration. If I continue working on this project, I am confident additional stages of cultural transformation for me, as well as other 1.5 generation Asian Americans, lie ahead. People can experience discrimination if they do not try to find their self-worth, but they will experience freedom if they discover their true identity.

14 Essays Inspired By The Sculptures Of Erkin Mergenov

$49.9

Fourteen sculptures of the distinguished Central Asian artist Erkin Mergenov constitute the subject matter of this book. The creative force of the sculptor produced the artifacts, which then inspired historians, theologians, philosophers, and literary scholars to produce “verbal” responses and meditations on original themes. The texts, which exemplify different cross-disciplinary approaches to art and sculpture, cover the 30-year span of the artist’s career – from Self-Portrait (1971) to Premonition (2001).
